Issue 68 | 2024 Part One
Some very big macro drivers have guided both of our stories for 2024.
While Covid-19 recedes from day-to-day consciousness for many, with this recession there’s an opportunity for proper reflection on the experience and remembering those that lost their lives. On a broader level, the lack of temporal markers during the pandemic has led us to think about Memory and how we will collectively process what has happened.
In a contrasting direction, Helter-skelter, is very much about looking forward rather than back, but also notes the high levels of anxiety as waves of hyper-inflation, reduced living standards and successive energy crises hit.
As promised, we have given MIX Magazine a design refresh, keeping old favourites but bringing our longest standing publication more in line with our other membership publications. The intent here is to help readers readily find and access the information they need, whether that’s a useful market overview or more focused development. In addition, we have expanded our Geographic Focus with the ambition of increasing the diversity of our regional coverage.
Finally, we have, after much discussion, decided to drop the AW and SS from our stories. For a while these seasonal titles have felt rather meaningless, not really reflecting the way in which design directions grow organically and inform far more than a single season. This was also the reasoning behind our introduction of continuity colours. The world is slowly but surely moving towards more sustainable models, and we believe that this needs to be positively marked, even in this small way.
