Plant-derived colour spotted at Dutch Design Week 2024.
Created by Studio Ariane Shirvani, this project explores the creation of natural pigments from plant species, providing an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic dyes in textiles. Using cultivation and green waste, the research highlights the potential of sustainable colour sources.

The Yellow to Blue rug is a hand-knotted wool piece, dyed with Indigofera tinctoria for deep blue tones and Prangos ferulacea for vibrant yellow hues. When combined, these pigments form natural green shades, creating an evolving, organic palette.

Each rug features uneven colouration, resulting in unique patterns with subtle variations. Over time, the pigments shift, reinforcing the dynamic nature of natural dyes. This approach embraces colour’s fluidity, celebrating the imperfections that make each rug one of a kind.
