Colour, material and spatial interaction in Patricia Urquiola’s among-us installation at Heimtextil 2025.
Presented at Heimtextil 2025, Patricia Urquiola’s among-us installation explores textile innovation, materiality and spatial interaction. Designed for a 650 m² space in Hall 12.0, the installation blends digital and tactile experiences, inviting visitors to engage with colour, texture and form in new ways.
Textiles play a transformative role in the installation, shaping both the structure and perception of the space. Layers of fabric in hybrid compositions create a soft, immersive environment, enhanced by colour and material contrasts. The tapestries act as defining elements, merging different materials into a harmonious palette.
The project also explores innovative textile production, integrating Econyl, a recycled nylon, with robotic tufting techniques. This process highlights the potential of technology in craftsmanship, balancing precision with the sensibility of traditional textile techniques.
The installation encourages a multi-sensory interaction with textiles. Visitors remove their shoes before stepping onto the soft carpeted surface, heightening awareness of touch and material. Moroso contributes to this experience with Gruuvelot, Mushmonster and Giano, three hybrid textile seating pieces designed for the space.
Urquiola describes among-us as a reflection on conviviality, hybrid relationships and the fluid intersection of digital and physical worlds. By layering textures, materials and contrasting colour compositions, the installation creates a space where textiles define space, while remaining adaptable and fluid.
