A swift glance at the stands at last month’s Orgatec was all that was needed to appreciate the seismic changes that the contract sector is currently facing. Sofas and soft furnishings were everywhere, colours were soft and domestic, traditional office furniture redefined and reimagined to suit the new workspace order. The order of the day was curves and comfort, a blurring of the distinction between office and public space.

Not that the technical challenges of the workplace were being ignored; on the contrary, the necessity for constant adaptability, of space, sound, light and colour has meant that new furniture must work even harder to deliver.

Acoustics, the bane of every open plan office were also effectively tackled with ingenious sound proofed pods, curtains and multiple high backed and winged furniture to escape the bustle of the office.
