Modern Materials and Traditional Knitting
Referencing many of the key drivers of our trend Rapture, Fay McCaul’s work fluidly mixes modern materials and traditional knitting methods to create wall coverings, partitions and artwork. The designs are created by knitting rows of individual pockets with reflective materials so that the resulting textile responds to movement and light. The fibre optic pieces are hand made by finger knitting each illuminated stitch, blending craft with technology.
McCaul often works with colour gradients in her textile work and has recently experimented with bold patterns and subtle pixelated effects. In combining high levels of skilled craftsmanship with modern effects, McCaul’s work manages to bridge the gap between craft and design, with a look that is distinctly her own.
