One to Watch: Dohee Lee

Graduate Design

We loved Central Saint Martins’ graduate Dohee Lee’s project A Common Thread, which asked the question, ‘Can textiles help mitigate against social isolation in an increasingly aged society and bring about positive social cohesion?’ Rather than ignoring the older population, Lee suggests we rethink the value and purpose of old age and understand how important a strong social structure is in making society more age friendly.

The project used a textile workshop as a communication bridge to allow the elderly to reveal their identity by translating their experiences, stories and knowledge into garments. The results, as can be seen here, reveal a generation that certainly hasn’t lost its edge.
