Nantes: Arts Festival
This citywide arts festival, celebrating art and culture, is held in Nantes from 30June to 26 August. The festival will host a collection of artworks located throughout the city, providing a rich art trail.
New artwork sits alongside pieces from previous years, while exhibitions and interventions are scattered around the streets, quays and squares of Nantes, all linked by a ten-mile long green line. This year visitors can also explore the city’s former shipyards, closed in 1987, which have been redeveloped, with new roads, buildings and developments springing up in what was formerly derelict land, transforming the abandoned industrial buildings and disused warehouses into galleries and bars.
Artistic Director Jean Blaise has been instrumental in transforming a city in serious decline through these permanent and temporary artistic attractions. He comments: “The idea of the festival is to colonise every part of town with artistic creation.”
