Colour Decoding Why It Works: Jim Thompson & Carl Hansen & Son

Iconic Furniture Embraces Colour in Textiles

This clever collaboration at the end of last year married Carl Hansen & Son’s iconic Hans J. Wegner’s iconic CH07 Shell Chair with silks from textile manufacturer Jim Thompson Fabrics.

The classic chair design was transformed by the deep jewel like colours and prints, with in total 16 different textiles from Jim Thompson compiled into four distinct colour themes in varied structures; Red Coral, Blue Sapphire, Golden Citrine and Green Jade. The textiles were then combined with different frames in various wood types and finishes; oak with a white oil or smoked finish, walnut with an oil finish, or painted beech in Anthracite Grey, Grass Green, Purple Blue, Berry Red and Vanilla White.

CEO of Hansen & Son Knud Erik Hansen commented:  “Silk is a unique organic material that reflects light and colours and radiates a very distinctive elegance. The color saturation is in a class of its own, and it is precisely this intensity that has captured our imagination.”
